What she wanted

After returning to her 825-square-foot rental apartment in New York City after a few months at home with her parents, Lonny editor Shelby Wax decided it was time to rethink her living room. With Shelby and her two roommates all working from home, the apartment now doubled as an office for three. During the day they could spread out, but in the evening, they needed a gathering space to relax and decompress together.

How we did it

To optimize her living room space for work and down time, Shelby turned to  The Everyday System™, California Closets’ modular, quick-ship storage solution designed in collaboration with Martha Stewart.

Working with her California Closets New York design consultant, she customized her media system with the storage and versatility she and her roommates needed. The adjustable design made it easy to accommodate her TV, as well as displaying ceramics, candles, and planters. Cabinets underneath also provided bonus storage for concealing extra supplies.

“I knew [The Everyday System] would not only work with my aesthetic but would totally help me fall back in love with my home.”

“Is my little NYC apartment still without its faults? Of course not. But, bringing in The Everyday System definitely made it a whole lot better… My favorite part? When those doors shut, all the clutter is out of sight.”
